Low Intensity Millimeter Wave as a Potential Tool in Treatment of Diabetic Sensorymotor Polyneuropathy

چکیده
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of application of low intensity Millimeter Wave (MW) in treatment of Diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy (DSP). We conducted a randomized sham-controlled single center study in 51 patients with painful DSP diagnosed according to Toronto Clinical Neuropathy Score (TCNS). Patients were randomized to receive either sham or MW treatment over 2 weeks period, 6 times per week. The primary efficacy parameter was the difference in TCNS after 2 weeks. The patients had similar baseline characteristics for TCNS, HbA1c and duration of DSP. After 2 weeks of treatment both groups had a reduction in TCNS ,in MW-treated group the mean of TCNS decreased to7.58 compared with 9.56 for the Sham group(p=0.033). MW had no effect on nerve conduction studies. The obtained data allow us to suggest the MW-treatment as a promising tool for Diabetic Sensorymotor Polyneuropathy therapy. Introduction:Distal symmetric polyneuropathy was the most common diabetic neuropathy that caused to significant disability. Sever pain, decrease and absence of sense and increase risk of ulcer and amputation were the complication of diabetes. Several therapeutic modalities used for pain control in these patients but none of them didn't provide complete consensually of patients. The aim of this ...

The potentiality of millimter-wave (mm-wave) double-drift region (DDR) impact avalanche transit time (IMPATT) diodes based on a wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor material, Gallium Phosphide (GaP) has been explored in this paper. A non-sinusoidal voltage excited (NSVE) large-signal simulation method has been used to study the DC and high frequency characteristics of DDR GaP IMPATTs dsigned to ope...

OBJECTIVE Low-intensity laser therapy (LILT) has been advocated for treatment of chronic pain disorders. Although the mechanism of pain relief is uncertain, this therapy has been suggested for relief of painful symptoms of diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy (DSP). The objective of this study was to determine whether LILT relieves the pain of DSP. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We conducted a r...

Background & Aim: Diabetic neuropathy occurs in approximately 50% of individuals with long-standing type I and type II DM(Diabetes Mellitus). The pathology of diabetic neuropathy involves oxidative stress, advanced glycation end products, polyol pathway flux, and protein kinase C activation. The purpose of this study was screening for diabetic neuropathy and analysing the relation between Hb...

Background and Aim: Polyneuropathy is one of the most common complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Clinical examination and electrophysiological findings (i.e., nerve conduction velocity) will not only provide an accurate diagnosis of neuropathy but will also help the physician in preventing and treating the disorder. The aim of the current study was to determine the prevalence of neuropat...
